Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Real Estate and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.53% to hit a new 3-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3), which rose 6.31% or 1.90 points to trade at 32.00 at the close. Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) added 5.10% or 0.32 points to end at 6.60 and Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) was up 4.05% or 1.05 points to 26.96 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4), which lost 2.56% or 0.57 points to trade at 21.70 in late trade. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) declined 2.35% or 0.53 points to end at 22.00 and BRF SA (SA:BRFS3) shed 2.17% or 1.02 points to 45.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 254 to 151 and 37 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.22% to 29.86.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.71% or 8.45 to $1189.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.05% or 1.08 to hit $53.83 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.12% or 1.72 to trade at $151.38 .
USD/BRL was up 0.24% to 3.1778, while EUR/BRL fell 0.30% to 3.3973.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.53% at 100.44.
